Tuomas Nousiainen is a Policy Officer in the Open Innovation unit at European Commission Research and Innovation directorate general.
The Open Innovation unit is responsible for developing and implementing a strategy for improving the EU's contribution to innovation, notably through the development of a more conducive regulatory environment, boosting private investment in innovation and maximizing the impact of existing tools. The work of the unit also involves, for instance, the development of ideas for a European Innovation Council.
Since 2012, Nousiainen has particularly been working on issues concerning knowledge transfer, open innovation and the optimal circulation of knowledge. His other main strands of work include user-driven innovation through service and design-enabled innovation.
