Jonathan Cullen is a University Lecturer in Energy, Transport and Urban Infrastructure at the University of Cambridge, UK. He is also a Fellow of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, where he chairs the Environment Committee.

Jonathan completed a MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development, then a PhD entitled ‘Engineering fundamentals of energy efficiency’, before starting the position of Research Associate for the WellMet2050 research programme, which focuses on reducing carbon dioxide emissions from the production of steel and aluminium. Jonathan’s research interests include whole energy systems, energy and material demand reduction and low carbon-energy technologies.

Jonathan has also worked on novel material efficiency options for reducing demand for energy intensive materials, as an alternative to carbon reduction strategies in industry. This work is described in the book he has co-authored entitled ‘Sustainable Materials: with both eyes open'.
